Camp SZÍVSN III. Lakitelek – the power of community

This year, three valuable days were spent together in Lakitelke by a member of the SZÍVSN who lives with or has already fought cardiovascular disease. The Hungarikum Liget was a fantastic host not only with its wonderful surroundings and services, but also with its distinguished attention, where not only the personal exchange of experiences, but also the incredibly rich presentations provided a lot of help and support to the participants. We would like to thank the Ministry of Interior for their support in making the camp a reality. Zsuzsanna Bernáth-Lukács, President of SZÍVSN, presented the importance of rehabilitation and patient tracking through the story of two specific patients, besides the achievements of the association, she reported on the work of the already national coordinator network, highlighting the team in Szolnok, who have recruited more than 300 members in the past year, and also highlighted the possibility of ESCAPE testing, which is a milestone in the international life of our organization. Éva Surmanné Szabó, our coordinator in Szolnok, also presented their work and gave us a thorough overview of risk factors. What has been achieved so far with the help of FHE?How do the European FH patient organisations work, what good experiences do they have and how have they been achieved? What is the situation at home?”, but in essence, we were presented with the entire scientific literature on cholesterol, but in a completely understandable way, with all the details of the topic explained by Ákos, who also talked about our international role. Júlia Perger, SZÍVSN consultant, economist and nutritionist, presented accurate data on the consumption habits of the population, misconceptions, known and hidden causes of obesity, high cholesterol or hypertension, showed SZÍVSN members technologies and easy-to-incorporate food preparation methods and ingredients. Dr. György Báthori, SZÍVSN board member, spoke about atrial fibrillation through his own story and the history and use of the WIWE device, while Dr. Margit Ökrös, MD, a cardiologist and rehabilitation specialist, gave an interactive presentation on heart failure. After a wealth of information and knowledge, Mrs István Kovács and Ilona Egedi concluded the very contentful professional programme with a joint pebble painting session, and Gabriella Faragó helped to move the limbs that had become numb after hours of sitting with gymnastics. The final lecture of the camp was given by Dr.Gergely Jambrik SZÍVSN board member, lawyer and FHE ambassador. What has been achieved so far with the help of FHE? How do FH patient organisations in Europe work, what are some good experiences and how have they achieved their goals? What is the situation at home?”.
