Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is responsible for 35% of deaths in women each year – more than ALL cancers combined. However, women’s CVD remains seriously under-screened, under-recognised, under-diagnosed and under-treated . This is mainly due to a variety of misconceptions, including the widespread belief that CVD affects men more than women.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the WHF is addressing these misconceptions to help women better understand their risk factors and to advocate for better recognition of cardiovascular disease as the leading cause of death in women. The more women know about heart disease, the better their chances of beating it.
