Women’s Day of the FH campaign!

Women’s Day of the FH campaign!

FH Europe’s Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH) campaign was launched on 5 March to raise awareness of the issue affecting women on 8 March, Women’s Day.

The European FH Patient Network is actively working to improve awareness, understanding and access to diagnosis and treatment of inherited lipid disorders (especially FH, HoFH, Lp(a), FCS) across Europe, so that all affected can receive optimal treatment and support, leading to longer and healthier lives.

FH Hungary’s patient organisation was established in January 2016 under the leadership of the patient organisation SZÍVSN. SZÍVSN Patient Organisation has been involved in screening FH patients for several years. The aim of the campaign is to find, educate and test FH patients in Hungary

Familial hypercholesterolaemia is found in one in every 500 adults in Hungary and occurs in one in every 20 individuals with high cholesterol. With heredity, cholesterol levels can be significantly higher than 8 mmol/l, while protective factor HDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels are normal.

By bringing together the FH group that has been set up, the problems arising from the shortcomings of the health care system can be brought to the surface. In our country, 60,000 deaths per year are linked to cardiovascular diseases, that is how many people we lose every year, fathers, mothers, young people, elderly people, the cardiovascular system is a problem that affects the whole society and a significant part of tragedies can be prevented! That’s why the organisation believes it is important to detect and treat the disease early.
